First of all, THANK YOU for stepping up and helping that little kitty and for seeking help... "it takes a village" to help Charlotte's voiceless kitties.
The stray/homeless kitten epidemic is something that so many Charlotte organizations and citizens work hard at every day. Mac Tabby is dedicated to helping support the initiatives in place for homeless cats and the spay/neuter efforts. We will continue to do so on a grander scale when our doors officially open this fall. You are doing the right thing by stepping up to help this voiceless, sweet creature!
If you are able to care for the kitten in your home - THANK YOU! By law, providing great care while actively seeking the owner is allowed, however you are required to fill out CMPD Animal Care & Control’s found report, or call 311 to file a found report. This report will be sent to Animal Care & Control staff and be placed into their 'found pet book' at the shelter in case anyone is actively seeking the kitten/cat you have found.
If you are unable to care for the kitten in your home, we thank you for taking the steps you have to ensure it's safety thus far. In this case, please contact our 501(c)3 non-profit partner, Catering to Cats and Dogs, to see if they have the space to take your kitty into their care. If they are full at the time of your inquiry, they will be able to send you links to other organizations who can possibly help.
By law, Mac Tabby Cat Café cannot "take in" a stray cat at will. We must ensure that all of our cats are fully vetted, spayed/neutered and safe to be around other cats and humans. As much as we want to take in EVERY kitty in the city, we also know that following the law is important for safety on all accounts.
If kittens are left on our doorstep, by law we MUST call Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control to pick them up... so PLEASE, seek other ways of helping as these cats will NOT be allowed to enter our cat café as some tend to believe. This is not a solution. Thank you for your help and understanding!
